Pereslavl-Zalessky 1 day tour ( a weekend option is possible)

You have probably heard of the «Golden ring cities» of Russia. They are mostly famous for the role they played in the Russian history and for their church architecture; they are small picturesque towns that are very different to Moscow and they are good to visit to get a more «balanced» idea of what Russia is nowadays.

Pereslavl -Zalessky, like Moscow, was also founded by Yury Dolgoruky. The town originally was designed as the capital of North-East Russia. The date of foundation is 1152 (for comparison, Moscow was founded in 1147). At the time, the town’s fortifications were, actually, bigger than in Moscow. In size it only compared to Vladimir.

Pereslavl-Zalessky has its own Red Square, and its quite different than the one in Moscow, you will see 🙂

Peter the Great, founder of the Russian fleet, built his first boats here (which is why this is one of the museums we will visit in Pereslavl.

Situated not far from a very big and beautiful lake, Pereslavl provided fish to the Tzars table. That’s why the restaurant of my choice for our lunch in Pereslavl is called «Tzar’s Herring» and is focused on that part of Pereslavl’s history.
They even have a monument devoted to the  the fish they get here, vendace.
