Anton Chekhov is an outstanding Russian writer, who is internationally renowned author of classic world literature. Chekhov is one of the most important Russian scribes and his works are translated into a 100 different languages. His most famous plays, such as «The Seagull», «Uncle Vanya», «Three Sisters» and «The Cherry Orchard», are performed in theaters all over the world.
The visit to Melikhovo will increase your understanding of this great personality. Chekhov lived and worked here from 1892 till 1899. The atmosphere of Melikhovo brings you back to Chekhov times. During the visit you will see where «The Seagull» was written, learn about the ambulance station of Doctor Chekhov. (Throughout his life Chekhov practised as a doctor and he used to say that medicine was his lawful wife and literature was his mistress). The visitors are also welcome to walk around the memorial garden, see «The Alley of Love» and «The French corner». Everything in the estate reminds you of Chekhov, who was a writer, a doctor and an important public person. The museum collection has more than 29000 exhibit items, so you will be sure to learn a lot!
